About the Artist / Artist Statement

Based out of Kansas City, Jeremy “MAD” Madl is widely considered to be one of the founding fathers of designer toys. His signature platform figure, the Mad*L, first made its way to store shelves and collector’s homes in 2004.

The Phase 1 characters (Billymon, DJ and Flame) and the unique humanoid shape created by the then relatively unknown artist caught the attention of a lot of toy and art collectors and quickly became one of the staple figures in the designer toy genre.

MAD followed his successful launch with Phase 2 (Domimon, El Lucha and Cry-On) in 2005 and Phase 3 (Aidamon, Armybot and Slam) in 2008. Ten years after the introduction of the Mad*L and countless toy designs later for many other brands such as Kidrobot, the NFL, Upper Deck, Mattel, Cartoon Network and more, MAD has brought the Mad*L platform back to life with Phase 4 (Maemaemon, Mad Ape and Modern Hero).

The four series, combined with a successful artist series and numerous special editions, including super sized 10” and 20” versions, have cemented the Mad*Ls place in designer toy history.
